I developed and ran a successful retail business for 36 years, growing it from a small unit into a shopping complex. Alongside this, I have over 20 years’ experience breeding pedigree pigs and am deeply committed to conserving our native breeds. For the past seven years, I have represented Northern Ireland on the BPA Council, chairing key committees on pork and sustainability. I’ve worked to improve genetics through collaboration with breeders and AI centres across the UK. Passionate about pedigree pork production and conservation, I aim to use my experience and leadership to strengthen the BPA and secure its future success. 

 I have been pig farming for almost 60 years, first engaging with the BPA in the early 1980s as a member of the Commercial Producers Committee and later Northern Region Chairman. I ran a small Berkshire herd within my commercial unit and went on to serve as Executive Director of the NPA and Chair of the British Pig Executive, opening exports to China. I represented the industry in Brussels for over a decade and have served on several boards, including the Food Standards Agency and SRUC, as well as Defra’s Animal Health and Welfare Board. I am a Liveryman and Past Master of the York Guild of Butchers,.

 I received a CBE for Services to Agriculture in 2007 and was made a Fellow of the Royal Agriculture Societies (FRAgS)the same year.

I acquired my first Berkshire pig in 1996, unknowingly beginning a lifelong passion. Starting with three pigs that quickly became twenty-three, I learned fast and enjoyed success on the showing circuit. Realising conservation depended on breeding for pork as well as showing, I developed a farm shop and café built on the ethos of “conservation through consumption,” processing around ten pigs a week at its peak. A committed BPA member since the start and Board contributor since 2008, I combine hands-on pig experience with a professional background in financial services, governance, and strategy to support a sustainable future for the breed.

Guy has been involved with pigs for most of his life and has a wealth of experience with a number of different breeds. Guy has held several different posts within the BPA, sitting on most of the committees at various times as well as being Chairman for 5 years. As well as being involved in the BPA Guy has exported pigs to a variety of different countries. Guy is passionate about keeping pigs as well as recognising the importance of pigs needing to be economically viable.

Jane grew up on a family farm and has a background in law and animal health.  She has been an active member of the BPA for many years serving as a Breed Rep, sitting on and chairing committees and becoming the first female to Chair the BPA.  Jane works closely with government and industry organisations including AHDB, providing educational workshops and meetings for members and producing supporting material.  As Chair of the Pork Committee, Jane has resurrected the Pedigree Pork Product Competition at the English Winter Fair and is developing various new initiatives for members. Jane is always happy to help and support breeders, new and old.

 Anthony is a 5th generation farmer with a mission to help consumers buy fresh, healthy, affordable, local food direct from their local producers. 

In 2001 he launched the local food website BigBarn that now displays over 9,000 local producers as icons on maps, accessed by typing in a postcode. 

In 2023 he took the next step and built a Community Food Park, Frank’s Farm, as a better alternative to the local supermarkets.  Once proved hopes it will be replicated all over the UK 

The park is growing fast and aims to be carbon zero by 2030.

Dawn is a community engagement and communications professional passionate about connecting people, animals, and ideas. With experience spanning membership organisations, education, care, and digital publishing, she combines strategic insight with hands-on livestock knowledge. At a national awarding organisation, she built a thriving professional community, launched a podcast, and produced sector toolkits and publications. As Publications Officer for The Poultry Club of Great Britain, she deepened her commitment to agricultural communication and rare breed conservation. Co-authoring a guide on animal-assisted education strengthened her ability to translate ethical practice into clear, engaging content—skills she hopes to apply in agricultural education and advocacy.

Ryan has been involved in pigs for many years starting young as part of a community farm. Tamworth pigs has always played a key role in his life and shaped his career. He has always been someone who is friendly and approachable and has bene Tamworth breed rep for many years. Ryan stands up for what he believes to be the right approach for pigs and does his utmost to ensure the survival of the different bloodlines.

Andrew grew up on a family farm with pigs, arable land, and a contracting business, inspiring his lifelong passion for agriculture. After studying at Bishop Burton College—where he was among the first to complete the ANCA in pig unit management—he built a 25-year career in the pig industry, progressing from managing a 100-sow herd to overseeing large outdoor breeding units. At AHDB, he led knowledge exchange projects on pollution prevention, stockperson training, and industry engagement. Now Head of Agriculture at LANTRA, Andrew continues to champion training, skills development, and best practice across the agricultural sector.

Peter has been a vet at Synergy Farm Health since 2013, working across all areas of farm practice with a special interest in pigs. He mainly supports smaller pig holdings, including pedigree breeders, small-scale rearers, and pet pig owners. Passionate about communication and education, Peter delivers workshops, CPD sessions, and articles for smallholders and vets. He contributes to the Pig Veterinary Society and brings enthusiasm, clarity, and strong engagement skills. Alongside his veterinary work, Peter is keen to help develop the BPA, reflecting his deep passion for pigs and their welfare.

I grew up in a farming family where my grandfather and father kept small commercial herds of Landrace/Large White pigs. After leaving farming to pursue a medical career, I became a Consultant Rheumatologist with extensive experience in governance, confidentiality, risk management and public presentation. In my early 50s, my wife Clare and I returned to farming, establishing a smallholding focused on sustainable, free-range systems and traditional pig breeds. We keep Middle White, Tamworth and Large Black pigs, prioritising conservation, importing new genetic lines and sharing boars to protect rare breeds. My research background in genetics further supports this work
